Starting as an American dance form and popularised throughout the world, the origins of tap dancing may lie in African dance, Irish dance or even clog dancing. Dancers use their feet to strike the floor, creating a percussive melody.
The Olney School of Dancing offers tap classes for both children and adults. Children’s classes follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing syllabus, with the opportunity for dancers to take exams to demonstrate their progress. For adult dancers, we offer flexible and enjoyable dance classes, so whether you’re new to tap or returning to dance after a break, there’s opportunity to build your basic techniques whilst learning some amazing dances. There’s also the opportunity to see professional tap dancers in action with trips to see shows such as 42nd Street and Tap Factory.
